Treasures of the Natural Park by Comes de Rubió

We will discover the treasures of nature that we can find in each station in Les Comes de Rubió, one of the emblematic places in the Massif de l’Orri sector of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, on the other side of the station of skiing in Portainé

The Alt Pirineu Natural Park was created on August 1, 2003. With almost 80,000 hectares in the counties of Pallars Sobirà and Alt Urgell, it is the largest in Catalonia and the Spanish Pyrenees.

The Park combines a great diversity of landscapes typical of the high and middle Pyrenees mountains, being its rich and varied natural values, as well as the elements that form its extensive cultural heritage, the result of human action on the territory. It is structured in five large sectors or valleys, which hide the essence of a territory with many values ​​to know and discover.

The Massif de l’Orri is located along the stretch of the river Noguera Pallaresa between Llavorsí and Arboló with some of the most unknown and fascinating places in the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. Large lateral valleys such as Baiasca and Siarb, hidden villages such as Montenartró and Tornafort, and steep slopes that fall lead over the Noguera in places such as Biuse, La Canerilla or Arcalís, are some good examples. The Pic de l’Orri, the intermediate objective of our excursion is the highest point, an extraordinary panoramic viewpoint, which dominates some of the best subalpine black pine forests and hides unique corners, such as the Comes de Rubió, of a territory of great geological diversity, which you can discover through the Rock Garden of the Park in Rubió.

So, we will leave Sort, through the Vall de Siarb, to Rubió, where we find the first viewpoint and the Garden of Rocks, where we will leave the N-260 to go towards the Refuge of Les Comes de Rubió, in the around which we will take a walk through the forest to observe the traces of fauna and vegetation in detail. We will move to the Pic de l’Orri (2,436 m.)

With the all-terrain vehicle from where we will contemplate the magnificent views of 360º and we will go down by the slopes of the ski resort of Portainé until taking the asphalt road that from the elevation 2,000 m. will take us again to Sort (690 m.)
