“The giant without a head”, the Massif of the Orri seen by the great poet J. Verdaguer.
Route inspired by the adventure of Jacint Verdaguer to La Maledida (Aneto), in 1882.
To capture the essence of the excursion, there is nothing better than to rescue the words of the diary of the Great Poet J. Verdaguer that are transcribed in the book “Damn. 1882 “, by Bernat Gasull: July 10, 1882 “From this height, one can come up with the idea of Pallars: the Noguera Pallaresa, which has taken off half of its name, passes west under that great mountain, and he would show us the Pallars better than anyone, accompanying him. all of us villages and valleys, nooks and crannies if we had time to do it, but now we will only follow it – and still through and through – in the three main branches with which this river branches, dividing it into 3 main valleys Alt Pallars “.
In one day, J. Verdaguer left Sant Joan de l’Erm, climbed the Pico de l’Orri and again descended on the right to reach the Bordes de Conflent, a feat that is not yet in sight. reach of all. Others will settle for a quiet 4×4 circular route, climbing the Siarb Valley, leaving the road to the town of Rubió, passing the bucolic landscape of the Comes de Rubió, to the top of “the giant without a head” to leave it. We were impressed by the panoramic views of 360º, considered to be the best in the Pyrenees, which over 100 years ago captivated one of the most prominent figures in Catalan literature.
And from viewpoint to viewpoint, we will go down to Sant Joan de l’Erm, reviewing his diary, his exploits, the history of the place and the time, to continue making his way until we connect the elevated road that follows the Romadriu valley until reaching the shore of the Noguera Pallaresa and Sort.
Most of the route runs through the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, one of the youngest and most extensive natural parks in Catalonia.
